Reduced Complexity Multipath Interference Canceller for HSDPA User Equipment

In this paper, a reduced complexity structure for the Multipath Interference Canceller (MPIC) [1], is proposed. The structure is well suited for user equipments supporting High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) standard. The reduced complexity structure is obtained by replacing the rootraised cosine for pulse shaping by a full raised cosine in the interference regeneration blocks. Indeed, this leads to reduce the number of operations performed at sampling rate, which are the most computationally demanding, and hence allows for drastic computational savings in comparison to the classical structure. Complexity evaluation shows that the number of arithmetic operations is reduced by a factor of 2 to 3, depending on the over-sampling factor, the number of stages and the number of allocated spreading codes.
